For the first time in 31 years, Apple is hosting the WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference) Online only. Apple has given an official statement regarding the same.
In the WWDC section of the official Apple Developer website, they have posted a message as follows.”This June, WWDC20 brings a completely new online experience to millions of talented and creative developers around the world. Join us for a fully packed program — including Keynote and sessions — to gain early access to the future of Apple platforms and engage with Apple engineers. Dive into an exciting learning experience and discover how to create your most innovative apps yet using the latest Apple technologies.”
It will be very hard for Apple to host the event locally as coronavirus is hit globally. Usually, the WWDC event are held at McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. For ensuring the safety of journalists, employees and all people who would attend the function, Apple is about going with the online format this time.
The official date or time is not updated as of now. You can find the same on their website once it is announced. Apple also announced it will commit $1 million to local San Jose organizations to offset associated revenue loss as a result of WWDC 2020’s new online format.
Apple is expected to showcase its new iOS 14, macOS 10.16, iPadOS, tvOS 14, and watchOS 7 at the WWDC 2020 event. After Microsoft and Google, Apple also ensures safety through a different approach this time. Google IO 2020 was canceled earlier this month. Similarly, Microsoft Buil 2020 was also canceled yesterday (13 Mar 2020) due to the widespread coronavirus outbreak. MWC 2020 was also canceled due to the same reasons above.
