Google I/O 2020 Cancelled due to the Cornonavirus Pandemic

google io 2020 cancelled

Earlier, Google announced that it will cancel the physical Google I/O 2020 Event and it was expected to be held online. Now, Google has officially announced that they are entirely cancelling the event due to the Pandemic.

The event was scheduled to take place this May at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in California. More than 900+ positive coronavirus cases and nine deaths have been reported so far. The officials have asked people in California to quarantine themselves and stay homes.

Google Developer officials posted on Twitter, “A #GoogleIO update: Out of concern for the health and safety of our developers, employees, and local communities — and in line with “shelter in place” requirements by the local Bay Area government — we sadly will not be holding an I/O event in any capacity this year. (1/3),” and further added we need to support the communities during the situations.

Due to the same reason, many events were either cancelled or moved Online. MWC 2020 was cancelled earlier this month and many events like WWDC, Microsoft Build 2020 were moved online. Earlier this week, Netflix Film and TV Series Production has also been halted due to the Pandemic

Google was supposed to announce some updates regarding Android, Google Assistant, Google Pixel 4A and some Android updates. As the event is cancelled now, we can expect the updates to be shared on their Google Developer’s blog. Google had also rolled Android 11 Developer Preview 2 just yesterday

Apart from this, many other updates have been delayed or stopped entirely due to the same reason.
