Instagram users can now host new Messenger Rooms video calls directly from the Instagram app itself. As promised, Instagram got Messenger Rooms support in the latest update.
Facebook introduced Messenger Rooms last month with an ability to add up to 50 people in a single video call. Video conferencing service including Zoom and Microsoft Teams has seen a sudden surge in the number of users during the quarantine time and in an attempt to make it easier for people to do group video calls, Facebook introduced a service called Messenger Rooms.
Facebook’s plan is to integrate the service to all Facebook-owned apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, etc. Facebook is planning to soon implement Messenger Rooms integration on WhatsApp and we have already seen leaks regarding the same. Now that Instagram got Messenger Rooms integration, it will be easier for users to initiate a new video call with up to 50 people.
Instagram announced the availability of Messenger Rooms on the Instagram app via Twitter.
How to use Messenger Rooms on Instagram?
Using Messenger Rooms on Instagram is fairly simple and straight forward.
In order to host a new video call, all you have to do is tap on the “Instagram Direct” button from the top right corner of the screen and tap on the video call icon. You will now see a new option called “Create a room” at the top.
Tapping on the option will show a small popup asking you to log in to Instagram via Facebook. Once created you can send the invite link and include them in the call. Do note that the limit is up to 50 people as of now.
Messenger Rooms integration is now live on the Instagram app. If you haven’t received the feature yet then make sure to update the app to the latest version.
Note – Some users still did not get the feature even after updating the Instagram app. Users might want to wait for a little longer for this to fully rollout.
