After Dimensity 800 chipset, MediaTek has officially announced Dimenstiy 820 5G with some awesome features like support for 120Hz refresh rate display and 80-megapixel camera.

The All-New Dimensity 820

Dimensity 820’s core architecture is the same as that of the previously launched Dimensity 800 and comes with the same TSMC’s 7nm FinFET process.

It is an octa-core processor and comes with four high performance Cortex-A76 cores with maximum clock speed of 2.6GHz and four energy efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz.

While comparing the same with Dimensity 800, it’s high-performance core’s maximum clock speed is 2.0GHz only.

Dimensity 820 competes with Snapdragon 765G in terms of performance and is positioned below the earlier launched Dimensity 1000 series.

As for the GPU side of things, the new chip gets 5-Core ARM Mali-G57 GPU. The clock speed of the GPU is still unknown. In Dimensity 800, it came with a four-core GPU.

Now here comes the main features of the new chip from MediaTek. First is that it now supports up to 120Hz refresh rate display and 80MP camera.

The chip now can support up to 80MP camera. In Dimensity 800 it was up to 64MP, now the company has pushed it a little above. It can record multi-frame 4K HDR video recording, all thanks to the MediaTek Imagiq 5.0 ISP.

The older Dimensity 800 only supported up to 90Hz refresh rate display but the newer one supports up to 120Hz panel. Apart from that it also gets new HDR10 support and has the ability to convert SD to HD as well.

The next main thing in the chip is 5G support. Dimensity 820 comes with an integrated 5G modem and supports both standard as well as non-standard 5G networks.

It also gets dual SIM 5G standby, 5G Ultrasave technology for better battery performance and more.

It could be the upcoming unconfirmed Redmi 5G phone the first to feature the new Dimensity 820.
