A McLaren spokesperson has confirmed that the scheduled partnership term with OnePlus is coming to an end and this means users will no longer see a McLaren branded smartphone from OnePlus.
We already saw from some Reddit threads that OnePlus were not listed on the McLaren’s 2020 F1 partner page. Ever since then, people started talking about it seriously. There were no words from OnePlus regarding this. But an official from McLaren has confirmed the same to Android Authority.
OnePlus released it’s first-ever McLaren branded smartphone back in 2018 and it was called OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. It came with 10GB of RAM and a cool Papaya Orange color.
Soon after that, the company also released the McLaren version of OnePlus 7T Pro as well. The company even announced a McLaren branded concept phone branded which came with a futuristic design and something called Electrochromic glass to the rear side to hide the camera when not in use.
Usually, McLaren branded OnePlus smartphones will come with more features and options than the regular one. For example, the RAM will be higher on the McLaren version (from 8GB in normal one to 12GB in McLaren version) and it even came with 5G support while the normal version only has 4G.
McLaren Spokesperson said, “Our partnership with OnePlus, which came to its scheduled conclusion recently, has been a highly successful collaboration between two iconic and innovative brands. Since the start of this partnership in 2018, OnePlus has been a supportive, valued partner and we wish them well and hope to see them in the future.”
So the OnePlus McLaren partnership is officially over and customers will no longer see a McLaren branded OnePlus smartphone. If you were one among few people who were waiting for the company to launch the McLaren branded OnePlus 8 series then this is sad news for you. Hopefully, the company might work with other brands to bring some other branded smartphone to the customers.
