Last month, during the OnePlus 9 launch event, alongside the smartphones, OnePlus also launched OnePlus Watch as well. We have been hearing a lot about the OnePlus Watch and we have even seen the watch leaking entirely days before the official launch too.
A recent post from the official OnePlus Forum gives us a new hint that the company is already working on an Always-on Display feature for the OnePlus Watch. In the article here, a question was asked “Does it support always-on display?“, to answer this question OnePlus product manager, Raymond Z wrote:
We’ve heard many users request the always-on display. We are currently looking at things like how it impacts power consumption and are evaluating the possibility to bring this feature in a future OTA. I’m also interested to know your thoughts about how important AOD is to you, considering that it could increase power consumption by almost 50%. Let us know in the thread below
So OnePlus is planning to push the new Always On Display feature to OnePlus Watch through future OTA updates. For a device to support AOD, it should have an OLED Screen and OnePlus Watch comes with an OLED screen, too. Now it’s a matter of testing and pushing the feature to all users out there.
The team is still working on the same and will be pushed in a future OTA update. No specific timeline for the rollout process has been shared yet.
A lot of smartphones these days come with the Always On Display feature. I have the same on my smartphone but I have not enabled it due to battery life concerns. It’s for sure that if you enable AOD on your OnePlus Watch in the future, battery life will drop.
Companies like Apple had already brought the same feature to their lineup of smartwatches starting from Apple Watch Series 5. Do let us know if you are excited about the new feature that will soon hit OnePlus Watches.
