Oppo’s President of the China business, Liu Bo has officially confirmed that the company is about to soon start making its own in-house chips to power their smartphones.
We have been hearing a lot of rumors regarding the Oppo M1, which might be the company’s in-house chipset for upcoming Oppo smartphones.
It was confirmed by Liu Bo in an interview – “We have to tackle the chip technology and make the technology the crucial driving force for our future growth.”
A lot of smartphone manufacturing companies are planning to make their own chips to use in smartphones. We have heard that Google is currently planning to create a new chipset that will power the Pixel smartphone series and possibly Chromebooks as well.
Companies like Huawei, Samsung, and Apple are already using in-house chipsets to power up the smartphone.
As per reports surfacing online, Oppo might start working with top companies like Qualcomm, MediaTek, Samsung, etc to make it happen.
Developing its own chipset will give smartphone manufacturers more control over both hardware and software. Apple is using its own A-series chipsets in their smartphones. Going this route will let companies make both software and hardware work more closely to deliver better performance.
Apple is already working on shipping MacBooks with new custom chips from Apple itself. More and more companies are slowly planning the same thing.
As Oppo is just getting started with this process, it might take some time for the company to introduce its first smartphone powered by in-house chips. Recently launched devices like Oppo Reno 4 series were all still using Snapdragon processors. A few upcoming Oppo smartphones will still use Snapdragon SoC until the new player joins the league.
