Paytm Removed From Play Store for Allegedly Violating Anti-Gambling Policies

Update: Finally the Paytm app is back on Play Store

Earlier today, Google removed the Paytm app from Play Store for violating anti-gambling policies. Along with the Paytm app, the First Games app was also removed from the Play Store as well.

The Vice President of Product for Android Security and Privacy, Suzanne Frey said “We don’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies”

As of now, new users could not download the app from the Play Store, but existing users could use the app without any issue. Following the event, Paytm took it to Twitter to let users know about the situation and stated, “Dear Paytm’ers, Paytm Android app is temporarily unavailable on Google’s Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon. All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm app as normal.”

The officials has confirmed that the app will return to the Play Store shortly.

Online casinos and unregulated online betting is prohibited on the Google Play Store. These kinds of activities were still running on the Paytm and First Games app. Google has reportedly contacted Paytm once before actually removing the app from Play Store.

Paytm also assured that all the money on users’ Paytm wallet is safe and secure and no need to panic.

Some users are also reporting that the app is not working on already installed phones as well. Not many details regarding this are available at the moment.
