Update (11 May 2020) – Qualcomm officially announced Snapdragon 768G 5G processor 15% performance improvements.
Redmi K30, Xiaomi’s first 5G smartphone was launched back in December 2019. It came with the Snapdragon 765G, which the mid-range 5G chip from Qualcomm.
Now the company is planning to launch a new Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition and it might feature a new processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 768G.
Update: The Redmi K30 Speed Edition will be launched in China on the 11th of May.
Not once but twice the company accidentally teased Snapdragon 768G. Earlier, a listing of Redmi K30 5G Speed Edition was spotted on the JD mobile app. As per the listing in JD, it can be seen that the processor is listed as the ‘Snapdragon 768G’. The same processor name could be found in two different places, one is the title and other the one in the device specification as well.
The Redmi K30 comes with Snapdragon 765G and the Redmi K30 Pro comes with the flagship-level Snapdragon 865. So it makes sense that the next version of K30 will be in between both of these in terms of performance.
So the new Snapdragon 768G will be slightly better than Snapdragon 765G and might come with some performance boost as well. As the same processor name appeared twice in the same listing, it is believed that it is not a typo.
Apart from the Redmi K30 Speed Edition, Xiaomi is also reportedly working on a cheaper variant of Redmi K30 called Redmi K30i. If it is true, we might get to see the new device in a couple of months.
As the name itself suggests, the phone will have some sort of speed improvements for sure. So the processor powering the device should be different from the one that is being used in the regular Redmi K30 5G. So connecting all the dots, the Redmi K30 Speed Edition might feature the Snapdragon 768G.
